Changes to the Sitekit CMS Interface

The Sitekit CMS Interface has been updated to further increase usability by improving the clarity, consistency and accessibility of the interface. This major improvement is in direct response to partner and user feedback.

No new training is required, although we have improved the visual design of the interface, we have been careful to ensure, the positioning and naming convention of every module remains the same. We’ve not changed how it works or where anything is, just made it easier and more intuitive to use. The following points highlight the key changes in Sitekit CMS v8. Image: Old and New Interface

Greater efficiency

More efficient use of screen space has ensured consistency and enabled faster loading of pages whilst editing. The Sitekit product development team have revised the background coding to improve performance and allow future personalisation options of providing ‘skins’ for the interface.

Protecting your content

The editing of content has been revised and now when you 'Save' or 'Publish' a page, the text editing box stays open to allow you to review and make further changes. Also after the initial save, the Sitekit CMS auto-save function activates and will auto-save every 5 minutes. Image: Auto-save

Tab view

The editorial section now displays four different views of your data via a tabbing system. Moving between tabs saves the data.

Source view

For advanced user there is now a new source view which exposes the HTML and XML behind the pages and allows users to drag and drop content between body fields.

Fast editing of content

Improvements have been made to the content editing process to improve its speed

  • The 'edit' buttons have been removed and instead you can double click on the text you want to edit and the editor box will popup.
  • For simple content types the editor no longer appears as a popup but can be embedded in the page.
  • The whole editorial process has been reduced by one stage so content can be published while editing.

Action feedback

On making an action in the CMS it is was often difficult to see the result. All action responses have been separated into 3 types (below) and give greater prominence in the interface). They will generally appear at the top of the page or in a popup. Image: Feedback Messages
