CalMac Ferries Ltd New
CalMac Ferries Ltd. provides passenger, vehicle and shipping services to the islands off the West Coast of Scotland and in the Clyde estuary.
The Challenge:
The ferry service provided by CalMac Ferries Ltd is a life-line to the people in the Scottish Highlands, the service is relied upon heavily by both tourists and commuters to get around.
CalMac wanted to make it easier for people to access the service status of the ferries and look at the new ways people are now accessing information.
The Solution:
The website's status board is updated by each of the individual ports, if there is a disruption to a particular service a port is running, a notice is published on the live CalMac website.
Sitekit worked with CalMac to explore how this status information could be sent out to commuters and tourists, simply and efficiently. A mobile App was created, when installed the mobile device receives the live service status updates for all the CalMac sailing routes. This enables people to quickly find out the information about the route directly from their mobile phones, and eliminates the need to phone in for updates.

CalMac can now communicate service updates to travellers much more effectively.This is currently available as a free download in many of the app stores and has already been downloaded over 6000 times since its launch in October 2010.
