NHS Leeds
With a budget of over £1 billion, NHS Leeds is one of the largest primary care trusts (PCT) in the country and commissions healthcare services for over 750,000 Leeds residents.
Challenge:
NHS Leeds needed an effective method to use its resources to encourage the public in its local area to to take a more active role in their own health care, and successfully achieve objectives set out in the invigorating new public health care plans.
Solution:
NHS Leeds decided to harness some of the latest developments in web technology to create a dynamic new site that would make accessing health care information much easier, and enable easy monitoring and gathering of the views of individuals about services and other issues.
One of the core developments was to make the homepage dynamic and customisable. Visitors now have the ability to move content around on the page and to choose a colour scheme, allowing them to personalise website making it relevant to their own needs. The site also has a password-protected personalised area on the site ‘My NHS Leeds’. People who register with the website have the opportunity to receive the latest updates directly to their personal space on with topics they have selected.

Results:
The site saw a steady increase in traffic after only a few weeks of going live. The on-line dental access form has proved to be really helpful in assisting local people to find an NHS dentist, receiving nearly 2,000 on-line applications. The ‘My NHS Leeds’ area so far has 650 registered users, with people engaging in actively choosing what information is relevant to them.
