Sitekit are pleased to announce the launch of the new NHS Camden website. NHS Camden is responsible for providing healthcare for people who live in Camden. It serves a population of about 220,000. The Trust is also responsible for supporting the local population to maximise health by promoting healthy lifestyles, for example, through services like the stop smoking service and sensible drinking service.
The new user-friendly, interactive website gives Camden residents up-to-date information on local NHS services, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles, providing information about the work of the organisation and serving as a useful tool for public and patient involvement.
NHS Camden enlisted Sitekit CMS as the foundations of the new website. Sitekit accredited partner, Precedent was commissioned to provide the new design and set up the templates for the new website.
“We chose to take our design direction from Camden as a place, which is inner city urban and quite gritty. We also gave the home page a strong campaigning edge to reinforce the Trust’s remit to promote healthy lifestyles”. said David Curless, Creative Director for Precedent.
The new site www.camden.nhs.uk features a multi-coloured dynamic menu that runs throughout the site to aid navigation and categorise information. The menu is automatically generated by Sitekit CMS. An editor can make any changes such as re-ordering pages or adding new sections without compromising the overall design. Changes automatically appear in the main menu in a colour, pre-defined in the colour palette. Editors can create new content very quickly and easily; the right colours and headings from the menu are automatically added to the new page, ensuring the page design stays consistent.
Other functionality on the site includes a postcode based search facility that is integrated with NHS Choices, which enables visitors to easily search for GPs, dentists, opticians and pharmacists in Camden. The site also has e-mail harvesting protection, so editors can publish contact details such as email addresses without having to worry about the addresses being harvested for spam.
The new website also has a number of accessibility features, for example, visitors have the ability to alter text size on every page and can view a high contrast text only version of the site, which are standard features of Sitekit CMS. The site also supports screen reader software. This assistive text to speech technology makes web content more accessible to anyone with difficulties reading, including people with visual impairment, dyslexia, or those who do not speak English as their first language.
