Giving you control of your website assets

Asset management and asset libraries

Sitekit CMS puts the power of managing all of your online content in your hands, ensuring you have control of consistency and brand.

A great site includes not only great written content but good images, documents, videos and sound files too. Managing these resources can be costly and time consuming as your site grows, so Sitekit CMS has been designed to make this process quick and simple.

Asset Explorer

Sitekit CMS Version 9 has a similar browsing style to Microsoft Windows explorer. The asset explorer gives a site editor comprehensive information about a particular asset such as its properties and its usage on the site. Assets are displayed as thumbnails or listed by details, and can be filtered by type, making them easy to find and identify.

Asset Tree

The asset tree is a structured repository of all the assets that are used and stored collectively on the website. All the website’s assets (files, images and pages) can be accessed from, or uploaded to, the asset tree directly. Assets can be moved between folders using ‘drag and drop’ functionality, and the search facility enables an editor to search for any asset on the site by name. This gives administrators and editors much greater control over stored assets so they can search, organise, secure and edit them with ease.

Advanced automatic asset check-in/check-out

Sitekit CMS automatically notifies an editor if the asset (page, file, image, template) they are trying to access is already in use by another editor – i.e. the page is checked out. Saving and closing the page checks it back in. This allows the web manager to have greater control over multiple users, which reduces conflict and duplication of effort.

Asset security - permissions

Admin control over a site’s assets is granular and comprehensive in Sitekit CMS. Rights such as delete, view and edit are managed per asset rather than by editor or group and are controlled using Access Control Lists (ACLs). ACLs are assigned to individual assets and correspond to which editor may or may not be permitted to ‘access’ the asset. The system first checks the access control list for an applicable entry in order to decide whether to proceed with the operation.

Asset Libraries

File and Image Libraries

The Sitekit image library provides a structured and searchable area for holding all graphic elements used on the site. The library currently supports .GIF, .JPG, .PNG and .SWF files for import and display. Files are limited to 250kB for a single file. Sitekit CMS' dynamic resize feature means that you need only store one version of a specific image rather than a selection. The image library also supports copyright based metadata, when set this means that an image can never be displayed on the site without its supporting copyright text.

Similar to the image library, the file library supports all file types except those that could be used maliciously (.EXE, etc.). Files can be ordered by size, type, upload date, etc. The library also stores an on-going count of file use indicating how long a file has been on the library and how many times it has been uploaded. Most recognized file types will have an option to be displayed in your website with a supporting icon. If a PDF is used, for example, the administrator can choose to display a link to the Acrobat reader. Metadata about specific files can be stored also to aid in the searching of information. All files that are displayed on the site will be included in searches of the site, including PDFs.

Links Library

The Sitekit link library provides the administrator with a central resource to hold the links for a
site. Links can be organised into categories and subcategories. Links pages can then be created that display the links from one or more categories. Again, non-displayed metadata can be stored for each link. The Sitekit CMS system does not prevent users from adding their own links to editorial content via the text editor, but users should be encouraged to use the library as it is better structured for promotion via search engines, such as Google, that rely on
reciprocal linking.
