NHS Cambridgeshire wanted a scalable system that would support future on-line needs of the organisation and enable the trust to harness developments in web technology in its communications strategy. The communications team conducted usability studies, which showed people wanted clear directions to information and they wanted real help and advice for simple tasks such as registering with a dentist. In response to the feedback the new design created by Sitekit’s Accredited Design Partner, Bloom Media is simple but high impact. It features a modern ‘apps’ style homepage to help visitors find their way easily to key information areas. The whole site design will stay easy to navigate and visually appealing when content changes for different campaigns, whilst being user friendly for non-techy people. To help the trust connect with an increasingly digital savvy audience, the new website is accessible on multiple platforms including mobile devices. Engaging interactive methods of communicating such as on-line polling, RSS feeds and video content and are now supported. The communications team can now send automated e-newsletters to its subscribers pulling information directly from its website. Rachel Glenndinning, Communications Specialist at NHS Cambridgeshire said: “Having developed and tested the new website with members of the public, we feel confident it will deliver significant benefits with many new features that are easy to use. People can find their local GP or dentist from the homepage, search our comprehensive document library and pull up Freedom of Information queries. Already people are finding information they need. A journalist contacted us shortly after the launch enquiring about a news story they had seen on the new website.
