Multilingual Website Editing

Sitekit CMS supports true multilingual site construction by enabling administrators to develop the multilingual versions of their sites in parallel allowing you to globalise your site. A site structure and design is created in English and then the content of the English language site are copied to each foreign language site to be translated. This has the advantage that the multilanguage sites can be developed over time with English language content appearing if no second language option is available.

The interface gives a clear indication of which pages have a translated version in place and which do not. Despite the parallel development the foreign language versions exist completely independently of the English language version and can be used as the primary site language or be accessed via different domains. Common phrases used throughout the site (i.e. search button text) are accessed via a dictionary system to give their foreign language versions.

Key features:

  • Foreign character set support - different character codes can be set on a page by page basis.
  • Parallel site development - you can develop all of your language sites at once.
  • Failover - If a page is not available in the specific language the browser displays the page in the root language.
  • System dictionaries - currently Sitekit CMS supports English, Dutch, French, Gaelic, German, and Spanish. More dictionaries can be added on application.
  • Support for Cyrillic and Oriental forms.
  • Independent styles and layouts - different language sites can be made to look different.

The website is looking great. The design and animated flash engages the children. encouraging them to listen to the project's message and get excited about attending the events.. - Allan Orr, Scottish Drug and Crime Enforcement Agency
