Sitekit CMS Application Programming Interface - Search

The Sitekit CMS search application programming interface (API) is designed to allow integrators and developers to perform searches on textual fields in non Sitekit CMS databases and return these results onto a Sitekit CMS search page. This search will integrate seamlessly with the standard Sitekit search.

Typical Uses

The search API has been used to date in many different situations, including the following:

  • Business directory search – a remotely held database of businesses are searched as part of a general business search on a regional site. The directories descriptor fields and business name fields are both searched. This site also has a specific search where only entries from the business directory are returned.
  • Regional and sectoral filtering – A national database of makers is held centrally. Sitekit provide several sites which access this site both for listings and via the search API for searches. The data for each of the searches is filtered so that on one site all the entries are searched whereas on another only those entries from a particular region are searched.
