The Client

EEAST

East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) provides urgent and emergency care, including the ambulance service, to the six counties of the east of England: Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

EEAST employs around 4,000 staff and 1,500 volunteers to deal with more than 900,000 calls every year. In addition the Trust handles more than one million  non-emergency patient journeys to and from routine hospital appointments.

The Challenge

For this project, EEAST was looking for a better way of sharing internal news with its staff. With employees being spread across six counties and working different shift patterns ‘on the road’, getting important information to them in a timely manner was difficult. EEAST approached Sitekit to find out how to solve this challenge in a way that was simple, quick-to-implement and minimally disruptive.

The Solution

To make sure that all EEAST staff would be able to keep up to date with everything happening at the Trust, the solution was to build a 24/7 rolling news site that could be accessed from a desktop, ambulance cab computer, smart phone or tablet.

Sitekit created a bespoke homepage for the site, with simple and clear design, integrating social media, news feeds and a rotating carousel featuring news highlights.

East of England Ambulance Trust’s “Need to Know” news website launched in April 2014, benefiting from a responsive template and a user friendly interface.

The Benefits

East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust were extremely happy with the website. It proved to be a great way to keep staff informed and engaged.

Tara Crabtree, Internal Communications Manager:  “Sitekit was professional, helpful and efficient throughout and created a site that looks great, is user friendly and fit for purpose. More staff access our news now than ever before, the feedback from colleagues has been really positive, and we’ve just been given an Award of Excellence from the Institute of Internal Communications for the project – none of which would have been possible without the Sitekit team.”
