On the 2nd June we got together with our technical partners in Liverpool for the first Mi (More independent) hackathon. During this day-long event we explored with the Mi project partners how people would be using Mi, a digital ecosystem of apps and services to support people to live more independently in their own homes and neighbourhood.

The aim of the Hackathon was to develop use cases (a list of steps that describe what a user needs to be able to do to achieve a certain goal) for the Mi platform, portal and applications. We also wanted to start planning the next development phase.

In total, 25 people from Digital Life Sciences (DLS), Tunstall, Philips, Symphonic Trust, Future Coders, BlackPear, Red Ninja, Mi and Sitekit gathered at the headquarters of the Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group. In the basement meeting room we had our morning session, in which the different partners got to know each other better and discussed ideas. It was great to see how collaboration among different companies led to a fantastic variety of designs, requirements and feature specifications.

The afternoon session was equally thought provoking: we split into work groups to explore specific data flows, user stories, interactions and scenarios, and it was interesting to see how the designs we came up with matched Liverpool CCG’s vision.

By the end of the day, we’d devised a clear set of use cases, which will be prioritised and detailed in partnership with key Mi project stakeholders – providing clear next steps to take Mi forward in the coming months. We’ll be running a second hackathon in August, so keep an eye on our event page for details.
