Foundation Apprenticeships in Software Development
Last year we announced our participation in the co-design of the Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Software Development. The apprenticeship, a school-based preparatory vocational course, was developed in response to the Commission for Developing Scotland's Young Workforce Final Report 'Education Working For All'.
Since then, we have had the honour of delivering three FAs, with plans for doing another three this year – as so far it has been an excellent experience for both students and staff.
Sitekit, founded in Portree on the Isle of Skye, has always had strong ties with local communities. Even though we now also have offices in Bloxham, Edinburgh and London, we still feel strongly about offering young people from various backgrounds access to exciting career options in IT. Cloud technology, not bound to a physical location, has allowed us to include a larger number and range of talented young people in apprenticeships – offering them a remote work experience that is just like being part of a project team in person.
Helping DigitalXtra Fund
We are proud to announce that once again this year we are helping the DigitalXtra Fund in Scotland. The Fund is committed to supporting extracurricular digital technology activities across Scotland, increasing the number of young people learning digital skills and inspiring them to consider a career in digital technology. As this is exactly in line with our business ethos, you can imagine how excited we are to help out; we look forward to the announcement of the winners in November!
Supporting innovation and equality in technology
We continue to be signed up for the ‘Scottish Business Pledge’, which aims to publicly support sustainable business growth, ensuring that prosperity, innovation, fairness and opportunity develop hand in hand. The pledge supports business values, long held by Sitekit, that contribute to long term sustainability and community building, as well as looking after the bottom line.
Campbell Grant, Sitekit CEO, said: “The Scottish Business Pledge supports everything we believe in as a company, including offering employees a positive work environment and investing in the talents and skills of young people. We are proud to embrace the pledge’s principles and believe the pledge is an important step forward in achieving sustainable growth.”
